Joan Son

Joan Son debuted her art in 1993 in the windows of Tiffany & Co in the Houston Galleria. Using fine handmade and commercial papers along with photography and paper folding techniques, Son has created numerous large scale installations for public venues including Texas Children's Hospital (Houston, TX) and The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center (Austin, TX). Her work has been exhibited recently at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Archway Gallery and Williams Tower Gallery. She received an Individual Artist Grant from Houston Arts Alliance in 2009 to collaborate with Betsy Siegel on a Robe with a cultural diversity theme. Numerous museum shops have featured her small artworks, including National Gallery of Art, Smithsonian Museum Shops (Washington, DC) and Crow Collection of Asian Art (Dallas, TX).
