Monica Cheon

Monica Cheon received a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature at Keimyung University, and later studied photography. Cheon has traveled extensively in pursuit of her landscape subjects, including Korea, China, Mongolia, New Zealand, England and Alaska. Her work is in the permanent collections of Seoul Central District Court, Korea Exchange Bank, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and Order of St. Benedict Waegwan Abbey. Two monographs have been published: Thirsty Land (Youlhwadang Publisher, 2006) and Humus (Beebong Publishing Company, 2009). Cheon’s work is included in the exhibition Chaotic Harmony: Contemporary Korean Photography that premiered at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston in 2009 and traveled to the Santa Barbara Museum of Art in 2010. Yale University Press published the accompanying catalogue featuring essays by Anne Wilkes Tucker and Karen Sinsheimer. Cheon lives and works in Seoul, South Korea.
